RHE: Relationships & Health Education

Last updated: 19th July 2021

Our RHE consultation process is complete and the draft syllabus and policy has been presented to the governing body. The policy has been approved and is available to the right of this page.

RHE will be incorporated into our PSHE curriculum throughout the year, and an overview will be provided at our termly curriculum meetings for each year group.

Thank you to our wonderful Barley Lane community for working together to achieve an outcome and policy that is suited to the needs of our community.

Consultation Process

Please see below the outline plan for consultation. This plan has been adapted in line with the LA consultation process, which was postponed from January 2021 due to the lockdown situation.

14th May 2021
We began our school-based consultation process by publishing our draft RHE policy and syllabus (to the right of this page). Parents and carers are welcome to review these documents and feed their thoughts back to us via an online survey. This survey has been emailed to parents separately.

7th June 2021
This was our deadline for completion of the online consultation survey. Barley Lane Primary School will take all feedback into account, and review it after this deadline has passed in advance of our Wave 1 and Wave 2 meetings.

End of June 2021
Local Authority Wave 1 meetings were due to take place at this time but have since been cancelled

1st and 2nd July 2021: Parent Consultation Drop-in sessions

9:30-11:30 am and 1:45-3:45pm on both days

Our drop-ins are being on 1st and 2nd July, 9.45-11.30am and 1.45-3.45pm. The drop-ins will be an opportunity for you to view the resources that the school will be using to support the teaching of our RHE syllabus from September.  Staff will be available to answer any questions you may wish to raise.

Following these drop-in sessions, we will provide further opportunity for parents to feed back via an online survey. We will then make any amendments we feel necessary to the policy and syllabus and share with parents on the week commencing 5th July. We may consider hosting a follow-up meetings with parents this week, based on the feedback we have received and whether there are any specific points relating to the policy or syllabus which require further discussion. The updated policy and syllabus will then be submitted to the governing body for consideration and approval.

2nd July 2021
Our next online consultation survey opens with parents having the opportunity to feedback on the draft 2 and resource examples shown on 1st and 2nd June. Deadline 6th June at 12:30.

Week commencing 5th July 2021

Draft policy and syllabus reviewed in light of the drop-in discussions, online survey and further communicatin from parents.

Draft 3 of the policy and syllabus will be published on this webpage in the afternoon, for parents to view. We will also publish an overview of the parent responses to our survey. The documents will be submitted to the governing body for review and we hope to approve the policy on the 14th July.
